American Legion Post 502 is named in honor of Paul Robert
Strange who was the first soldier from Porter County, Indiana who
was killed in action in Vietnam.
American Legion Post 502 is so much more than simply a place
where veterans and those who support them gather. In our small
community it serves as a hub of good men and women who come
together to continue serving, making a difference in others’ lives
within our local community and national supported charities.
We are constantly approached by local groups and residents
requiring assistance for their charitable endeavors or needs. The
requests vary from donating our hall for benefits, holding meetings
or making a monetary donation. A small representation of these
groups is listed below:
Porter County Vietnam Vets Association
South Haven Fire Department
South Haven Lions Club
South Haven Boys and Girls Club
Hoosier Burn Camp
Boy Scouts of America
South Haven Little League
Portage ROTC Scholarship annual scholarships are
awarded from Post 502
Operation Comfort Warriors
Valparaiso Pilots Association
